Ravi_23

Hi there, I'm Ravi! I am gentle, playful, and just super sweet. I'm also timid and shy, so sometimes it takes me extra time to warm up to new people. I'm looking for someone who will understand my insecurities, and let me go at my own pace as I settle in. I was able to spend time in a foster home, where I learned what being a normal dog was like. My foster mom let me make confident choices when I felt like being brave, and that really helped me! I really enjoy pets and kisses once I get to know you. I became friends with my dog friend in foster, spending time in the outdoors and enjoying the fresh air! Most importantly, I am ready to learn with my new family, and I hope you want to learn with me too. Learn more about me here.

Freckles_23

Hi, I'm Freckles! Notice my beautiful tortoiseshell coat? That's where they get my name from! I'm a great mix of independent and loving. I can entertain myself, but I also love hanging out with you - perfect right? My favorite thing to do is lounge on my favorite chair or ledge, watching birds from a window. I love to play - I've even mastered playing fetch with my toy mice. I spent some time in a foster home, and I did quite well there. It takes me a few days to warm up to new people, but I quickly give you the full Freckles once I'm comfortable! I'm an easy, relaxed cat with a lot of love to give. Learn more about me here

Rex and Fiona_22

Many of you might remember when Wayside’s Rescue and Response Team worked with other animal welfare organizations to save 500 dogs from a puppy mill in Iowa October of 2021. Sadly, these dogs had been neglected their entire lives. They all needed tremendous, individualized care – some were accepting of the new world around them in a few days, others needed months before they were able to trust humans. All organizations involved were able to take dogs to their shelter for additional care; Wayside brought back nearly 150 dogs! One bonded duo, Rex and Fiona, simply put, did not know how to be dogs. The Wayside Team poured more than a year of dedicated care to rehabilitate them. It was at Wayside, they learned how to be dogs, how to love, how to trust. We realized they needed one another to flourish, so we deemed them a bonded pair who must be adopted together. At Wayside they had many “firsts” – going outdoors, walking on grass, playing in the snow. They learned that riding in a car was fun, humans could be good, and they made many, many friends. It did take more than a year, but a volunteer helped us find a perfect family in Chicago to adopt Rex and Fiona. They are now forever loved and have the life they deserve. Donor support provides a depth of care – a depth of expertise -- that most animal shelters simply can’t provide. Most animals find their adoptive families within a few days or weeks. But for pets like Rex and Fiona – sometimes it can take more than a year.

Scarlett_23

Scarlett was brought to Wayside from a Good Samaritan who saw her get hit by a car. She got to us just in time – she needed quiet a bit of medical assistance with her front left leg because the ligaments were torn and it was severely dislocated at the elbow. In addition, some of her skin was torn off of her body on her left thigh and she had a tail fracture. Our veterinarian was able to reset her leg and put her in a cast to monitor. Due to only being 2 months old, it’s likely she’ll grow and need a larger cast put on. She is currently resting and healing in a foster home. She will continue to be monitored by our veterinary team and more medical care will be provided as needed. Hopefully she’ll soon recover and be able to be adopted soon.
